Description

Stuart Teicher, Esq. (‘the CPD Performer’, USA): “Joining the ranks of the ultra-successful lawyers is a three part process: perfecting your craft, managing your time/stress, and protecting yourself from the most dangerous ethical pitfalls”.  Join Stuart’s talks on 27 March 2014.
Stuart Teicher’s visit to Australia has been made possible by the combined effort of Law Societies across Australia.  Proudly sponsored by Thomson Reuters.

3 x 1 hour sessions (attend one or all)   CPD Points: 3 (E,PS,PM)
Professional Skills, Practice Management and Ethics points included.

Part 1: Fluff is for pillows, not legal writing
Distilling legal documents to their most basic elements is the key to creating an effective persuasive legal writing. It's also the best way to draft readable documents for transactions. The problem is…it's not so easy to achieve. Stuart teaches us how to make our legal writings clear, concise and direct. Get down and dirty with some technicalities of sentence structure, get the lowdown on Stuart's "Shortwriting" method for reducing long sentences, and get the skinny on "the only punctuation you'll ever need to know." There will also be a hands-on section where participants rewrite passages on their own.  CPD: 1, PS

Part 2: Technethics: the ethical & professional pitfalls of social media
Facebook will be around for another year or so, then it's gone. Yeah, right. Social media is here to stay and it's having significant ethical and professional ramifications for lawyers of all kinds. Whether it's the manner in which it's used in the substantive practice or the bad decisions we make in our personal use, there are ethical concerns about which we must all be aware. Join Stuart as he talks about issues like competence, confidentiality, misconduct, and lots more. His program includes a discussion of particular rules from the Australian Solicitor’s Conduct Rules soon to be adopted in Tasmania.    CPD: 1, E

Part 3: It’s not time management…it’s lifetime management
Anyone can talk about little tips for time management, but rarely does any speaker get down to the core issues. Join Stuart as he explores the evil trilogy of time management, procrastination, distraction, and neglect. He'll also talk about managing the stress inherent in the practice of law and how to avoid dangerous pitfalls like substance abuse.  CPD: 1, PM
