Philip was admitted to practice in 1978 and practises as a barrister at the Tasmanian Bar
Phillip was appointed silk in March 2015 and practises exclusively in civil litigation,
specialising in personal injury (including workers compensation), professional conduct and
liability, and commercial litigation including insurance, property law and equity. In 1993-
1995 Philip was the President of the Tasmanian Bar Association and in 2000-2002 he was the
President of the Law Society of Tasmania. Between 2001 and 2011 Philip served as a Board
member with the Tasmanian Law Reform Institute. Between 2002 and 2003 he was a Council
member of the Law Council of Australia (LCA) and between 2003 and 2007 he was a Director
of the LCA. He is currently a member of the LCA Professional Ethics Committee, Executive
Member of its Legal Practice Section and Deputy Chair of his Personal Injuries Committee.
He is also Deputy Chair of the Disciplinary Tribunal (Tas).
