About the presenter:

Mae Tanner, Lawyer and Trainer, Not-for-profit Law, Justice Connect

Originally from Tasmania, Mae was admitted to practice in 2008 and has a Masters in Human Rights. She initially practised in the Dispute Resolution team at King & Wood Mallesons and was Associate to Chief Justice Black in the Federal Court of Australia. During five years working in Samoa and Myanmar, Mae gained expertise in training and advising on governance and regulatory issues for nongovernmental organisations, government bodies and the United Nations. She joined the Not-for-profit Law team at Justice Connect on returning to Australia in 2016, where she provides advice and training for not-for-profits on a wide variety of legal issues. Previously a board member for NTA East Indonesia Aid Organisation in Canberra, Mae is currently involved in establishing a global association of human rights advocates and activists. She also volunteers on weekends at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre’s Human Rights Law Clinic in Melbourne.
